In this heart-centered conversation, Karen Green, MSW, LSSW—founder and creator of Conscious Care Cards—discusses how the small, everyday moments between parents and children can become the foundation for emotional resilience, empathy, and long-term well-being.

As a tenured professor and director of the Mental Health Associates Program at Mt. Hood Community College, Karen has spent over 25 years in the mental health field helping families build the emotional foundations for happiness and healing. Her expertise bridges the science of attachment, neuroscience, and mindfulness with practical, real-life parenting tools.

A New Way to Think About Healing

Conscious Care Cards were born from Karen’s belief that healing doesn’t just happen in therapy—it happens at home. Through 72 evidence-based, beautifully designed activities, the cards help parents and caregivers of children ages 5–11 transform 2–15 minutes of everyday time into powerful bonding rituals. Each activity is designed to strengthen emotional intelligence, calm the nervous system, and build trust between parent and child.

During the episode, Karen shares insights into:

  • Why connection is the foundation of resilience

  • How to “reparent yourself” while parenting your child

  • The science behind attachment and emotional regulation

  • How small, consistent rituals of connection can change a family’s emotional landscape

A Movement Toward Emotionally Healthy Homes

More than just an activity deck, Conscious Care Cards is a movement toward emotionally healthy homes—where both parents and children can heal, grow, and thrive together. The cards invite families to “Intentionally Create Your Nest” by setting aside distraction-free time to play, reflect, and connect, fostering presence and love that lasts beyond childhood.

As Karen shared in the interview, “When you learn to soothe your own nervous system, your child’s naturally follows.” That’s the essence of Conscious Care Cards—empowering caregivers to become their child’s most powerful healer.
